Maui’s Latest Beautiful Addition: A Giant Field of Sunflowers

Maui just got a little prettier.

With the loss of the sugar cane industry, there were those worried that the lush fields would be replaced by something less aesthetically pleasing (like, say, houses). Have no fear: central Maui is now home to sunflowers.

The flowers are currently in bloom and should be picture perfect for around 20 more days, according to Maui Now. They have been planted as part of an initiative to help increase Hawaii’s use of renewable and sustainable biofuels, and so far, we’re also getting some amazing photos out of the fields. If you’re not headed to Maui within the next couple of weeks, have no fear: a new plot of sunflowers will be planted about a month after the first is harvested. For now, we can all enjoy the beautiful new crop making Maui the best island in the world.

I miss the sugar cane and pineapples and all, but these sunflowers are way more photogenic. #mauisunflowers
