Viewing the Haleakala sunrise is no doubt one of Maui’s most popular activities. In fact, make sure you book your sunrise reservation to avoid disappointment! But getting up in time for sunrise means you have a long day ahead of you. So what are the best things to do after watching the sunrise from Haleakala?
We’ve come up with some fun things you can do as you head back down the mountain.
1) Get Breakfast
If you’re looking for something quick and a little more local, try Kamoda’s Bakery in Makawoa.
If you’d like to eat a sit-down breakfast, try the Kula Lodge (which features a lovely local artist gallery downstairs) or Paia Inn Cafe. While in Paia, you might also stop at Paia Beach; while it’s not the best swimming beach on island, it’s a great place to hang out in the mornings and play in the surf.
2) Visit the Maui Ocean Center
The Ocean Center opens at 9am, so you can head over to Ma’alaea as soon as you’ve finished breakfast. Depending on your personal preference, you can spend an hour or a full day hanging out with the fish.
3) Go Ziplining
If you fancy staying out and about, try an Upcountry ziplining tour. The views are incredible and the entire Upcountry area is worth exploring. Spending a couple hours driving and exploring Upcountry Maui is well worth the time. On your way back down, stop in Paia or Makawao for lunch and browse the shops!
4) Spend the Afternoon at the Beach
The very early morning start may mean you want to go back to bed after viewing sunrise. If so, then hanging out at the beach is one of the best things you can do after that. Kick back, relax, and soak up the sun.
